Daniel Sisel

Daniel Sisel has attained his Bachelors degree in Fine arts at Whitecliffe College of Art and Design, was a finalist for Adam Portrait Award 2024 and has presented his works at Form Gallery, The New Zealand Portrait Gallery and Aotearoa Art fair. He uses literature as the basis of his works, grasping onto symbols from chosen novels, then creating paintings out of them. Longing to understand the human condition, what it is to exist and how it can be revealed in literature and conveyed in art, through the use of indexical semiotics. Each image assiduously chosen, ranging from family photographs from decades before his lifetime, or when scrounging through online resources to find elusive scraps that may be equivalents for interior, incoherent thought.
